Family Home Evening

Alright, so here is the post the explains everything about our day yesterday and why Jamie and Brandon are mad at me! :) Let me warn you that the post is pretty long and you don't have to read it if you don't want to, but I have to get it all down on paper before I forget. Here we go: I had told everyone that our ultrasound appointment was on Wednesday when it was actually yesterday (two days early). We had Brandon watch Parker for us while we "went out to lunch" (thank you Brandon!) with the plan in mind that we would announce what we were having at the family gathering that night. Jamie helped plan the activities that night (except for the announcement) and Dad and Brandon planned the lesson for the boys. I'll get back to this in a second after I talk about our ultrasound.

So, Greg and I were super nervous going in because we had wanted a girl but knew a boy would be great too, especially for Parker to have a little buddy. Well, the ultrasound tech was measuring other things before we got to the "good stuff." However, Greg and I thought we saw something and I started assuming we were having a boy. After awhile Greg said, "I don't think there is anything there.... it's a girl." Right then, the tech said, "It's a girl." Umm... what? I wasn't expecting that at all and for a moment I thought she was just echoing Greg's statement. She must have realized I didn't believe her when words like "really?" and "are you sure?" kept coming out of my mouth. So, of course, she had to show me in detail, at which point I said, "I think I'm going to cry..." and then I did. We'll have to get Greg to blog about his feelings at this moment because all I remember at this point was that I was squeezing the life out of his hand. The tech went on to measure the rest of the things she needed, but she kept going back and showing me that our baby was still a girl, just so I could be positive. We were super excited and I left the lab still in awe that it was possible that we could be having a girl. I was just so sure that we would have a mountain of boys! Okay, now on to the night at my parents' house.

Here is Ethan and Parker waiting for the night to begin... Ethan is looking at his mommy, who was also taking a picture and Parker was looking at me with his "cheese" face.

We sang "Popcorn Popping on the Apricot Tree" and this is a picture of Parker "taking an armful" (like it says in the song) and you can see that Ethan is clearly enjoying so many people singing the same song with hand motions!

Greg, Brandon, and my Dad are behind this box doing a puppet show for the boys. It was the story of Noah and the Ark and I think the boys wanted to go running back there to help out!

Jamie had a coloring activity for the boys while the adults played a game with M&M's. After the game, I told them there was one more game and pulled out the two little jars below. As you can tell, one is blue and one is pink. Everyone looked at me and made little comments about boys and girls, but Jamie was the one who finally said, "Wait, you guys know what you're having, don't you!" Yes, Jamie, you were right. And this is when everyone realized we had lied to them about our ultrasound. I told them in order to find out they had to count the M&M's in the jars. Whichever jar had more M&M's was the winner and of course, the pink one had more! I think Brandon and Jamie will forgive me because I'm pretty sure they had fun eating M&M's.
Here they are, counting.... Parker was hoping to eat some of them as you can see. He was super sneaky and managed to eat more than his share that night.
After that, we went to Greg's parents' house with the jars. It was fun watching them count because Michelle and Sandi each took a jar and dropped an M&M in one at a time until there was one pink one left! They were really excited too and unfortunately, we don't have any pictures because we forgot to bring the camera inside! Sandi and I then went through some girl clothes that she had bought and I got to bring them home with me. That's when it started to sink in... girl clothes? I'm having a girl!

YAY!! I'm so excited! We love having one of each, and I know you will too. :) Although, I thought having a girl would give me a little break...but Dallin is the shy one and Evie is WILD. You never know. ;)
